Don’t worry, bee happy

Apparently May is the month that honey bees swarm. This year they had to wait until the very end of the month for the weather conditions to be just right, and then they gathered in their masses in our magnolia tree. All sixty thousand of them!

Stretched

A recent job gave us the opportunity to illustrate some of the process for preparing a tapestry or cross stitch for framing.

T.Rex, you’re so sweet…

This week saw the arrival of a rare T.Rex poster, signed by the original band members, which had clearly been much-loved by a previous owner but in new ownership was in need of a more substantial wall-fixing than the Blu-tak or Sellotape it had previously enjoyed!

Light at the end of the tunnel

As we begin to emerge to some sort of normal life after such a strange year, we finished off a project that we’ve been working on for almost as long as the pandemic. I hasten to add that we don’t normally take this long, and certainly weren’t on it full time! We have been kept very busy throughout lockdown, and have made a great many frames whilst this waited its turn.

Less is more

Much as we may appreciate a good frame, we are well aware that the frame is secondary to the art it contains; not the other way round. We picture framers can’t have too high-an opinion of ourselves!

Last stop Uckfield

As a youngster I lived at the terminus of two bus routes, and I used to enjoy seeing the drivers winding the destination blind round as they prepared for the return journey. A succession of seemingly far-off and exotic place names would scroll by, and I would wonder where they were and what they were like.

A was reminded of this when a regular customer brought in a compilation of bus blinds for mounting and display. Not the first one we have done for them, but certainly the longest!

A long life, well lived.

Today we remember with thanks and fondness the Duke of Edinburgh, and his long life devoted to public service.

A sign of the times

The last few weeks have seen our workshop stacked – literally! – initially with timber and plywood sheets, which we have since transformed into an assortment of shop hanging signs, a fascia sign and a menu box. The reason for this? Well, some restaurants have taken the opportunity of their enforced closure to refurbish so as to be ready for the much-anticipated reopening on Monday 12th April. As a workshop we have been able to stay open throughout and, since we like interesting projects, we have been able to use our facilities to support them in their endeavour. The work […]

Easter art

We see many lovely pieces of art at 6 Riverside; the result of much hard work and attention to detail, but this weekend’s spring sunshine gave rise to these beauties in my garden, painted with nothing more than light and absolutely no input from me! What looked uninteresting and lifeless only a few short days ago is transformed into an object of beauty. While we pride ourselves on what we can do to enhance the art you bring us, even we recognise that some things just don’t need frames! Mark

Galloping to the rescue

It’s not often we receive an international phone call, and even rarer for it to be from someone riding a horse, but that’s just what happened the other day! Our caller was in the Netherlands and wanted a photo framed as a gift for a friend’s birthday. There were just three snags – the friend was in the UK and the photo needed to be printed, framed and collected by the friend’s mother, all within two days! Could we help? Well, we like a challenge, so naturally we said that we could! That opened the starting gates for an equestrian […]
